AI-Enhanced Archival Workflows – Workshop invitation
We are pleased to invite you to the ArchXAI Workshop in Riga, bringing together archival and heritage professionals from Estonia, Finland, and Latvia, as well as interested participants from other countries. This workshop focuses on archivist workflows and archivist information request AI-toolset requirements. The workshop is aimed particularly at professionals working in archives who are responsible for information request processes.
As a participant, you will have the opportunity to be among the first to shape and develop an AI-powered archival tool for processing data requests in three national archives Estonia, Finland and Latvia.
Three hands-on workshops focus on
- co-designing and validating archivist workflows
- exploring the development of new AI‑based methods in archival work
- receiving expert Insights and practical applications of AI-supported tools
In addition:
- Guided tours of The National Library of Latvia and National Archives facilities
- Meeting the international ArchXAI project development group in person

Archivists, heritage professionals, and organisations interested in the practical use of AI in archival services and the co-development of future public archival tools.

This session provides an overview of how AI-based methods are currently being applied in archival work, with a focus on practical use cases and lessons learned from ongoing development.

13.00 Information request processes – how to build a joint AI tool in three archives?
This session introduces the cross-border context of ArchXAI and outlines the shared challenges and goals related to archival information request processes.
13.30 ArchXAI Co-Creation Workshop 1: Validating Archival Workflows and AI Opportunities
Purpose is to establish a shared understanding of current archival workflows, validate the process analysis findings, and identify meaningful opportunities for AI assistance.

10.00 ArchXAI Co-Creation Workshop 2: Co-Designing and Prioritising the AI-Assisted Archivist Toolset
This workshop focuses on the joint design and prioritisation of functional requirements for the AI-assisted Archivist Toolset. Participants will work with conceptual models and service mock-ups to identify key features, usability needs, and development priorities.

13.00 ArchXAI Co-Creation Workshop 3: From State-of-the-Art Methods to Practical Indexing Tools
This workshop introduces AI-based content analysis methods and their application in the ArchXAI Content Indexer. It is designed for archival and heritage professionals interested in practical AI use. Participants can share feedback and ideas to support the development and adoption of AI-assisted solutions for better public archival services.
