CLEAN Beach project at the Baltic Sea Day 2026 in Helsinki

Baltic Sea Day 2026, arranged on August 27, brought thousands of people together to celebrate and learn about the Baltic Sea through a wide range of public events in Helsinki. At Kansalaistori Square, next to the Central Library Oodi, the free Baltic Sea Festival offered interactive exhibits, games, and activities for visitors of all ages, highlighting marine nature, research, and conservation.

The CLEAN Beach project was featured at the Baltic Sea Festival, engaging citizens in discussions about beach microplastics, cigarette butt litter, and the wider challenge of marine and coastal litter pollution. Visitors were invited to learn about the environmental impacts of littering and the importance of monitoring and reducing pollution to protect the Baltic Sea and its coastal environments.

The Baltic Sea Festival attracted approximately 5,000 to 5,500 visitors during the day.
