Diving activity in Mariehamn

On July 28, 2025, a special diving activity took place in Mariehamn, Åland Islands, in close cooperation with KAT and members of the local diving club Nautilus. Unlike their usual deep wreck dives, this time the divers explored the shallow waters of Västerhamn, next to the historic sailing ship Pommern.

Although visibility was only 20–30 cm and no fishing gear was recovered, the divers still brought up a surprising variety of larger items – including a swim ring, trolley, glass bottle, jumper, tape recorder, can, frisbee, sand toy, and a small container.

The event attracted attention locally, with local media coverage in both Ålandstidningen and Nya Åland, highlighting the importance of keeping our waters clean and raising awareness of marine litter even in unexpected places.
