New Reuse Store for Construction Materials Opens in Eskilstuna

Last Friday, Eskilstuna celebrated the opening of Återbygget, a new reuse store for construction materials at ReTuna Reuse Mall. The opening attracted great interest, with visitors queuing both outside the store and at the checkout throughout the day.

The results were immediate: during the very first day, approximately six tonnes of materials found new owners instead of becoming waste. The store offers reused construction and renovation materials, making it easier for both professionals and private individuals to choose circular solutions.

The inauguration was led by ReTuna Centre Manager Simon Glimtoft, Chair of Eskilstuna Municipal Executive Board Marie Svensson, and ESEM CEO Magnus Eriksson. In a symbolic ceremony, Marie and Magnus sawed through a wooden plank instead of cutting a ribbon. The saw was brought by Waste to Value partners from Åland, highlighting the cross-border cooperation behind the project.

The new store is one of the tangible results of the Waste to Value project, demonstrating how materials previously considered waste can become valuable resources in a circular economy. The initiative contributes to reducing waste, extending the life of building materials, and supporting a more sustainable construction sector.

-The overwhelming response on opening day shows that there is strong demand for reused construction materials and circular solutions in the building sector, Simon Glimtoft says.
