Project „Sustainable Silage“ contributed to the success of Regenerative Farming Forum „Northern Roots“ in Tallinn
In 24.-25. of January 2024 a Regenerative Farming Forum „Northern Roots“ was held in Tallinn bringing together ca 400 farmers and other participants from Estonia and neighbouring countries, who value sustainable food production. The „Sustainable Silage“ project supported the arrangement of session dedicated to the environmentally friendly feed production and animal grazing. The manager of Kingsclare Estate Farm Mr. Tim May from UK shared his experiences in using regenerative and organic farming principles in milk production. The farm is managing 480 dairy cows using mobile milking parlor, so animals spend their time outside in grasslands. In panel discussion the farmers and experts discussed about the benefits of winter grazing practices and how these can be used in Nordic and Baltic countries. The panelists found that even prolonging the grazing season by 2 months is beneficial both from environmental and animal welfare point of view. The discussion was moderated by Estonian Farmer of Year 2023 Mrs. Airi Külvet.
The session was supported by the Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce in the framework of INTERREG Central-Baltic project „Sustainable Silage“.
