Finnish farmers participated actively in field day in Loimaa

The field day organized on Tuesday 24th of September 2024 got almost 50 participants moving to learn more about the nutritional aspects of silage at Juha-Pekka and Hanna Turta’s dairy farm in Loimaa. At the event, we saw a video about the project’s activities this year and heard how the silage harvest season had been for the host farmer couple. In addition, all participants had a chance to take part in a “Silage Race” that introduced different aspects of making environmentally friendly silage. Tasks during the race included e.g. identifying grass seed mixtures and different compounds produced during the silage fermentation process, the potential of soil amendments in improving nutrient efficiency, feed values ​​and stress experienced by grass plants. The event got a lot of good feedback and farmers appreciated especially the Silage Race which offered a new kind of interactive way of learning more about silage.
