Introducing the project crew – The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute

The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) is an internationally prominent research institute in the transport sector, whose principal task is to conduct research and development related to infrastructure, traffic, transport, and mobility users.

VTI conducts interdisciplinaty research and offers knowledge services for a wide range of organisations

The research units participating in the REISFER project are Traffic analysis and logistics with senior analyst Petra Stelling and research assistant Klara Ivanetti, and Environment with researcher Nina Svensson. The Traffic analysis and logistics unit has employees with competence, for instance in implementing environmental improvements in the transport sector, logistic operations, public transport, feasibility and follow-up studies. The Environment unit staff are experts in environmental analyses, including air emission monitoring, calculations and measuring.

VTI’s role in the project is to conduct feasibility studies on the Swedish pilots and to conduct the emission measurements, calculations and follow-up studies. VTI will also participate in the cross-border feasibility and comparative studies.

VTIs vision is an efficient, green and safe transport system. Island ferries are vital parts of the transport system in the central Baltic region. The collaboration and solutions tested and implemented within the REISFER project will help accelerate decarbonization and contribute to greener transports to the islands in the Baltic.
