REOPEN project develops a new training programme to strengthen young people’s employability skills

A new training programme for young people has been developed within the REOPEN project, focusing on the knowledge and skills needed to support their successful transition into the labour market and adapt to its rapidly changing requirements.

The programme focuses on the development of soft skills that are essential for entering and succeeding in the workplace. Young people will strengthen their ability to take responsibility, demonstrate reliability, take initiative and be accountable for their work. The programme also supports independent thinking, idea generation and problem-solving.

The programme further develops digital skills, enabling young people to use digital devices, software and online resources confidently and effectively in everyday work.

An important component of the training is green skills, which aim to strengthen young people’s understanding of sustainable practices, responsible resource use and practical approaches to addressing environmental challenges in everyday life and the workplace.

In addition, participants will develop practical artificial intelligence (AI) skills for everyday work. They will learn how AI tools can be used to search for and process information, generate ideas, prepare content and support a range of work-related tasks, contributing to more efficient and effective ways of working.

The training programme has been developed as part of the project “REOPEN: Next Generation Workforce – Empowering Youth Opportunities for Better Employability”, implemented by the University of Latvia in cooperation with the University of Helsinki, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Estonian Business School. 

The REOPEN project aims to address persistent youth unemployment and skills mismatches in the Baltic Sea Region by providing young people with relevant skills and opportunities to improve their employability and successfully navigate a rapidly changing labour market.
