Preparations begin for the next Central Baltic Programme, 2028–2034

The Member States of the Central Baltic Programme have given the mandate to the Regional Council of Southwest Finland to start preparing the content of the next programme period. Over the coming year, the participating regions will jointly shape the new programme, and stakeholders and project actors will be at the heart of that process.

The decision marks the official start of preparations for Central Baltic 2028–2034, the next chapter of the EU’s cross-border cooperation programme for Finland (including Åland), Sweden, Estonia and Latvia.

It is also a strong vote of confidence in the Regional Council of Southwest Finland, which has managed the current Central Baltic Programme and hosted its Joint Secretariat for years, working closely with the participating countries and regions.

What happens next

Over the next year, the regions, Member States, authorities and other partners of the programme area will work together to define the content of the new programme. This includes shaping its priorities and objectives so that it responds as closely as possible to the region’s development needs in the years ahead.

Stakeholders and project actors will be consulted extensively throughout this process. For everyone who has followed, received funding and delivered a Central Baltic project, this is the point where your input starts to matter. The programme’s future priorities will be built together with the people and organisations who know the region’s cross-border challenges and opportunities best.
