NEET-TO-MEDIA project kicked off in Valmiera

The NEET-TO-MEDIA project officially started its joint implementation phase with a two-day kick-off meeting in Valmiera, Latvia, on 1–2 July 2026.

The meeting brought the project partners together to establish a common understanding of the project objectives, expected results, implementation timeline and division of responsibilities. The partners also discussed project governance, communication arrangements, procurement, reporting and the first practical steps needed to launch project activities.

A key part of the discussion focused on how to reach and engage young people who are NEET, close to becoming NEET or at risk of becoming NEET. The project team and Steering Committee discussed possible outreach channels, including cooperation with youth workers, social workers and schools, as well as ways of motivating participants to remain involved throughout the programme.

The Steering Committee also discussed the role of media production within the project. Particular attention was given to finding the right balance between producing a final video and using the video-making process itself as a practical learning experience through which young people can develop new skills and confidence.

The second day of the kick-off included visits to local educational and youth institutions in Valmiera and discussions with local stakeholders. These meetings provided additional insight into existing youth support structures, outreach opportunities and challenges related to working with NEET and at-risk young people.

The kick-off concluded with an agreed set of next steps for the coming months. These include further defining the project target groups, developing approaches for participant motivation and retention, assessing support needs and preparing the outreach and recruitment activities that will form the basis for the next phase of NEET-TO-MEDIA implementation.

The Valmiera meeting marked the beginning of practical cooperation between the project partners and laid the foundation for turning the NEET-TO-MEDIA concept into activities that directly involve and support young people.
