The final document of the Central Baltic Programme 2021-2027 has been submitted for approval to the European Commission

We have reached an important milestone in the Central Baltic Programme 2021-2027. The final programme document was submitted for approval to the European Commission (EC) yesterday.

Looking back on the process, the Programme draft was submitted to the EC for a so-called interservice consultation in December 2021 to provide their feedback on the programme. Based on the EC’s observations, the Joint Secretariat updated the programme document and provided clarifications, which our Joint Programming Committee confirmed in a written procedure just before Easter.

Merike Niitepõld, the Head of the Managing Authority, explained the importance of this process: “Preparing a strategy document like this is such a long process, with several milestones. This was definitely one of the biggest. The whole process, with our regional stakeholders and also now with the Commission has been so smooth. Everyone has had a constructive approach and clear vision for how to cooperate within our region. The EC observations helped us explain this vision better.”

We expect the new programme to be adopted in the early summer 2022.

Meanwhile, we will continue working on the assessments of the project applications submitted for the first call. The decisions on which small projects are approved and which regular projects can proceed to the second step are taken by the Programme Monitoring Committee. The Monitoring Committee meeting is planned to be held on 28-29 June 2022.
