B2H Seminar (in Estonian): What are the features and uses of textiles?

The world of textiles is diverse – from common natural fibers to innovative synthetic solutions.

The physical and chemical properties of textiles determine their durability, care, and potential uses. Understanding different materials helps both consumers and designers make more informed choices, avoid problems, and extend product life.

This seminar on textile properties gives participants practical knowledge to apply in product development as well as in communication with clients. The day includes a lab visit, inspiring lectures, and practical discussions.

Programme:

• 10:45–11:00 Gathering at the main building of Tallinn University of Applied Sciences
• 11:00–12:00 Visit to the textile testing laboratory and anthropometry laboratory (3D scanning) at Tallinn University of Applied Sciences
• 12:00–12:15 Introduction and presentation of the Baltic2Hand project (Tallinn Business Incubator)
• 12:15–14:00 Understanding materials – the key to a new era of textile use? (Diana Tuulik)
  Presentation covers both traditional and innovative textile materials, their physical and chemical properties, and specifics in care and use. Topics include recycling and reuse opportunities, comparison of common materials, and how material quality affects lifespan in second use. The session will also discuss natural and toxic dyes and finishing agents, as well as key certifications.

• 14:15–15:00 How to talk to customers about materials and their care? (Tallinn Business Incubator)
  Presentation provides examples of how to communicate material composition and care instructions on company websites, followed by a short practical session.
• 15:00–15:45 Presentation of the ARTEMIS project and discussion: How can we jointly develop textile circularity? (Paula Veske-Lepp)
