Beach cleanup at Audru-Poldri conservation and Valgeranna beach areas

On April 12, 2025, a beach cleanup took place at the Audru-Poldri conservation area and Valgeranna beach areas, organized by volunteers from the Estonian Fund for Nature and team members from the Re:Fish project at the Estonian Marine Institute, University of Tartu. The weather was windy and chilly, but that didn’t discourage the cleanup participants.

A total of 214.66 kg of litter was removed from the two areas this year, compared to 376.69 kg in 2024. Among that, 79.33 kg of fisheries-related litter this year and 110.75 kg last year was collected. This indicates that there was 43% less litter in general and 28% less fishing related litter by weight in these areas compared to the previous year, which is a very positive outcome. In May, the cleanup efforts are planned to continue in the city of Pärnu and its surrounding beaches.
