Keep Sweden Tidy at the Sportfishing Fair in Jönköping
Keep Sweden Tidy participated in the Sportfishing Fair 2024 in Jönköping during the dates 15-17 March. A total of 16,487 sport fishing enthusiasts visited the fair.
Keep Sweden Tidy had a showcase with the aim of disseminating information about the ongoing EU project Re:Fish as well as spreading knowledge about lost fishing gear. The visitors had the opportunity to take a “trash-free fishing” quiz. The quiz consisted of five questions about lost fishing gear and information on how anglers should act if they lose a fishing gear. The visitors who completed the quiz received a patch with the text “Litter-free fisherman” and the children received a stuffed fishtoy.
The difficulty level of the quiz was at a good level for the anglers in our target group. However, we felt that competitions in the form of throw fishing, or other more physically active forms were more popular activities than a knowledge quiz.
Several environmentally committed anglers came forward and wanted to talk about the importance of litter-free seas and fishing grounds. One of the visitors also said that this was the “Sportfishing Fair’s most important booth” as he felt that the problem of lost fishing gear in the Baltic Sea was of a high degree.
