Ca 100 farmers and advisers gathered in ReGen AGRI seminar and field visits in Estonia

On 9 October 2026, nearly 100 farmers and advisers interested in crop production gathered at Waide Motel for a seminar entitled “Smart Decisions in the Field: Healthy Soils and More Efficient Crop Production.”
Mrs. Merrit Shanskiy, Professor of Soil Science at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, drew on examples from two international cooperation projects to explain how plants growing in the field can protect the soil, retain nutrients and feed soil organisms. Her presentation focused on how to grow healthy soil rather than weeds and problems.
Mrs. Kerttu Tammik from METK (Estonian Centre of Agricultural Research and Knowledge) discussed how farmers can make better use of their field data and introduced a three-year field trial programme covering approximately 600 hectares of arable land, launched in cooperation between Sadala Agro OÜ, Gens OÜ and METK.
Olivier de Schaetzen from Gens OÜ highlighted the benefits of using soil and plant data in crop production, explaining how to effectively interpret and apply the results of different analyses and other available data to support better farming decisions.
The programme continued with presentations by two farms participating in the ReGen AGRI pilot programme, sharing their experiences and ongoing field trials. Tõnis Ajaots from Rannu Seeme OÜ presented their activities together with advisor Stefan Gernert, while Jaak Täkker from ATK Linavästrik OÜ was joined by advisor Olivier de Schaetzen.
Following the seminar, participants visited the trial fields of both farms. The field visits provided an excellent opportunity for farmers to exchange practical experiences, discuss different crop management approaches and assess soil structure and soil health directly in the field.
