CargoRes Project Launches Stakeholder Engagement with Kick-off Meeting

The CargoRes project recently held its stakeholder kick-off meeting online, bringing together 25 representatives from across the maritime cargo handling ecosystem to initiate dialogue on current challenges and opportunities related to dry bulk cargo handling, washing waters and environmental protection.

The event marked the start of the project’s stakeholder engagement activities and provided an opportunity to introduce the project’s objectives, planned activities, and expected outcomes. Participants included representatives from maritime authorities, port organizations, industry stakeholders, and environmental experts. The meeting created a platform for exchanging perspectives and identifying areas where collaboration between research, industry, and public authorities can support improved practices.

Following the introductory presentations, the meeting included a discussion session where participants shared their experiences regarding operational, regulatory, and environmental aspects of cargo handling and related waste management processes. The discussion highlighted the complexity of balancing operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection within maritime logistics.

Participants also emphasized the importance of cooperation between ports, shipping companies, regulators, and researchers in identifying practical and cost-effective solutions. The conversation reflected a shared interest in exploring innovative approaches, improving information exchange, and identifying opportunities for future testing and piloting of new solutions within appropriate regulatory frameworks.

The insights gathered during the meeting will contribute to the ongoing work of the CargoRes project, helping to inform future analyses and stakeholder consultations. The project will continue engaging with stakeholders throughout its implementation to ensure that proposed solutions are grounded in operational realities and aligned with the needs of the maritime sector.

Further stakeholder engagement activities and workshops will be organized as the project progresses.
