Connecting with residents and building engagement in the pilot areas
As part of the SuRuMo project’s ongoing work, we have recently carried out a series of on-site activities in the Swedish pilot areas of Hannäs, Nykil and Karlsby.
On February 19, 24 and 26, as well as March 7, we visited the pilot sites to share updates about the project extension, highlight what has been achieved so far, and present the next steps moving forward. These in-person meetings have been an important opportunity to meet residents directly, strengthen relationships, and create a space for dialogue around local mobility needs.
A key focus during these visits has been to recruit so-called “super users” who will take part in the upcoming evaluation phase within Activity 2.7. Through a combination of physical meetings and complementary communication efforts, including newsletters, email outreach, and ongoing local dialogue, we successfully engaged a total of 19 super users. Their involvement will be crucial in testing and evaluating the solutions developed within the project.
The meetings have proven highly valuable, not only in terms of recruitment but also in enabling more direct and meaningful feedback from residents. Meeting face-to-face has made it easier to reach people, build trust, and better understand everyday mobility challenges in the pilot areas.

Local collaboration creates vibrant community engagement
One of the highlights took place on March 7 in Nykil, where the project team collaborated with Linköping Municipality, the mobile library and Nykils local grocery store.
Together, we created a welcoming and engaging event for the local community, combining information about the SuRuMo project with social activities such as serving hot dogs and popcorn, arranging games, and offering live music. The event attracted a wide range of visitors, including families with children, and provided a relaxed setting for conversations about future mobility solutions.
This collaborative approach not only increased awareness of the project but also helped recruit additional super users and strengthen connections with the community.
By continuing to engage residents through both structured activities and informal meeting points, SuRuMo is building a strong foundation for user-driven development and evaluation of sustainable mobility solutions in rural areas.
