Cross‑Border Learning on Circular Construction

As part of the Waste to Value project, a transnational study visit was carried out to Malmö and Copenhagen, focusing on reuse and circular solutions in the construction and urban development sectors.

The study visit demonstrated how ambitious climate goals can be translated into practice through early planning, clear requirements and close collaboration between municipalities, developers and industry. In Malmö, strategies for reuse, renovation and extended building lifespans are embedded throughout the planning process, supported by data‑driven tools and pilot areas such as Varvsstaden and Nyhamnen.

In Copenhagen, Lendager Architects presented practical examples of circular architecture, where waste is treated as a resource and reuse, upcycling and material innovation are integrated into both design and business models.

Overall, the study visit highlighted the importance of cross‑border knowledge exchange, practical testbeds and early‑stage interventions in moving from policy ambitions to real impact. The activity contributes to the Interreg Central Baltic Programme objectives by supporting cooperation, transfer of good practices and the transition towards a more resource‑efficient, climate‑smart and circular built environment across the programme area.
