Cycling Together in Espoo – A Look Back at Cycling Promotion Events

Different events can act as catalysts for behavior change as they introduce new ideas, provide hands-on possibilities to test things, and foster community engagement. In Espoo, various cycling promotion events have been organised throughout 2025, beginning with the winter cycling pop-up event in February.
In April, a sustainable commuting event was organised for the workers and visitors of the Tietokylä office building in Otaniemi, Espoo. The event, open to all, focused on promoting commuting by bike by providing up-to-date information about the climate impacts of commuting and the current level of cycling in Espoo. It also showcased the equipment and software used to track cycling numbers in the city. The event also features companies from the cycling industry, who presented their products and offered attendees the opportunity to test an e-bike.
In May, the project organized a cycling evening for residents in collaboration with Espoon Asunnot. Participants learned about bicycle maintenance and upkeep under the guidance of an experienced trainer.
The spring culminated in the Cycling Week events around the city. The annual national cycling celebration festivities were held during the beginning of May, offering various events and activities across the Helsinki metropolitan area, as in previous years.
The autumn, and the start of the new semester at Aalto University mark the beginning of a new phase in many students’ lives. Cycle4Climate, together with other Sustainable Espoo development projects, was present at the Aalto University Welcome Fair to introduce local services and mobility infrastructures to new students from different regions and abroad.
