Experiences on the Bike Path to Wellbeing Cycling Challenge in Gävle

About 100 people in Gävle signed up for a cycling challenge this spring, aiming to cycle to work at least three days a week for six weeks. 🚴
For some, the challenge helped turn cycling into a habit: “Quickly, I got into the habit of taking the bike instead of the car.”
For others, it was a reminder of cycling’s everyday benefits, from the fresh air and exercise to starting the workday more awake and having time to clear your mind on the way home: “I’ve become calmer. On the way to work, I get a nice moment of solitude and mental preparation, and on the way home, a mental wind-down.”
The challenge also showed that practical questions matter. One participant found that borrowing a cargo bike helped solve the logistics of cycling with a child, while another was surprised to discover that cycling was sometimes faster than driving.
And for many participants, cycling will continue beyond the challenge.
The cycling challenge was part of the “Cykelvägen till välmående” (Bike Path to Wellbeing) campaign, carried out within the Cycle4Climate project.
