Jūrmalas ūdens meets Ķemeri residents to discuss the RARE-G pilot
On 24 September 2026, representatives of SIA “Jūrmalas ūdens” met with Ķemeri residents at Ķemeri Library to discuss the planned RARE-G pilot on Durbes Street. The meeting focused on how the pilot could affect residents’ everyday lives and the local environment.
Raimonds Arājs, Gints Dakša, Anda Zaķe and Aivars Kamarūts represented SIA “Jūrmalas ūdens”, the lead partner of RARE-G. They shared updates on the project and provided explanations about the planned pilot, giving residents an opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns.
The discussion addressed the potential implications of the pilot for the neighbourhood and possible changes to the surrounding environment. The representatives listened to residents’ concerns and responded with explanations about the project’s current developments.
The planned pilot at the Durbes Street wastewater pumping station forms part of RARE-G’s work to reduce the impact of wastewater and stormwater systems on the Baltic Sea environment. In Ķemeri, the proposed nature-based solution aims to reduce hydraulic pressure on the Vēršupīte stream, lower overflow risks and improve water quality.
The meeting provided an opportunity for direct dialogue between the project team and the local community, helping residents better understand the pilot’s purpose and allowing the team to hear the community’s perspective. RARE-G is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Central Baltic Programme and is implemented with partners in Latvia, Estonia and Finland from June 2026 to May 2029.
