“SAFE and Sound” Podcast on Spotify

The SAFE project team has launched a podcast “SAFE and Sound: Workplaces for All Ages”, a sub-series of the NDPHS podcast “Tune in Health” where we focus on health and well-being related conversations and in-depth analysis of the issues in our region. The ageing population in the Nordic-Baltic countries is a testament to successful healthcare and socioeconomic development. However, as people continue working later in life, they often encounter ageism, which can manifest as prejudice, discrimination, or neglect. Join us and our guests as we dive into what makes a workplace age-friendly, how to see an ageing population as an opportunity, and how to boost job opportunities for individuals aged 55 and above.

When talking about age-friendly practices, it is important to acknowledge that aging happens throughout our life and is ongoing as soon as we enter the labor market. In the first episode, “Career Compass: Navigating Strengths & Attitudes at Every Age”, project manager and senior lecturer Liisa Nuutinen and project specialist and senior lecturer Heini Maisala-McDonnell from Metropolia Univesrity of Applied Sciences, Finland, together with Antti Harjuoja, CEO of NextMile discuss different aspects of career management, and strengths and attitudes related to all ages. Listen to the “Career Compass” episode on Spotify here.

In the second episode, “Beyond Age: Valuing Experience and Encouraging Workplace Flexibility”, our host Heini Maisala-McDonnell welcomes to the studio Jaana Jantola, CEO of Tempore Personnel Services, and a returning guest from the first episode – Antti Harjuoja, CEO of NextMile. This time, the conversation focuses on how flexibility, inclusion, and understanding can help organisations strengthen age-friendliness and extend working lives. Our guests shares practical solutions, challenges, and insights into the importance of viewing ageing as a source of value and experience in modern work communities. As people in our region live and work longer than ever before, it is vital to ensure inclusive organisational culture that are fair and motivating for employees of all ages. “SAFE and Sound: Workplaces for All Ages” podcast sub-series highlight the challenges and solutions for older workers and employers on how to promote age-friendly practices and ensure that people are valued in their professional environments regardless of their age. Together, we explore new ways to support experienced professionals, promote active aging, and build a more inclusive labour market across the Central Baltic area.

Both episodes were hosted and recorded in the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland. Stay tuned for more!
