Start Smart hackathon winners innovated future-proof solutions

The Start Smart Autumn 2025 training programme has culminated in an exciting showcase of talent, where aspiring entrepreneurs from Finland and Estonia demonstrated how AI tools can be harnessed to build a better future.

Organized by Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, and starring learners from groups coached by Startup Refugees and the Estonian Refugee Council, the hackathon brought together teams to present impactful, forward-looking business solutions. The coaches were impressed by the participants’ creativity, courage, and their ability to leverage artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems.

The winners were awarded travel gift cards provided by the event sponsor, Eckerö Line.

Platform revolutionizing learning by connecting students with peers and mentors for personalised 1:1 support and micro-events.

Estonia

In Estonia, two teams shared the top spot with their innovative digital solutions.

Winner: HireCompass
AI powered career co-pilot for migrants and international students that helps with localised CVs, cover letters and job seeking.

Winner: BuyWise
Application that encourages sustainable fashion choices by empowering consumers to shop consciously.

A successful conclusion to the Upbeat project

This event marks the conclusion of the Start Smart Autumn 2025 training programme, part of the wider Upbeat project. The initiative is dedicated to upskilling newcomers and supporting them in launching their own businesses through modern AI technologies.
