InterMod

InterMod aims to create green, efficient, and smart mobility solutions to cut CO₂ emissions in smaller urban municipalities and encourage changes in how people travel.
In Estonia, Latvia, and Sweden, these areas face a shared challenge: their low population density makes big-city transport solutions unsuitable. This leads to heavy reliance on private cars, raising emissions, and limiting sustainable travel options. InterMod tackles this by prioritising public transport, light traffic, and improving connections between affordable transport modes and local services. By piloting innovative mobility hubs in all three countries, the project will reduce car usage, promote greener travel, and help meet climate goals across borders.

Expected results

InterMod will pilot smart, green mobility hubs in Viimsi (EE), Cesis (LV), and Söderhamn (SE), each designed to fit local needs. These hubs will link transport modes like buses, bicycles, and e-scooters, while making everyday services easier to access. They aim to reduce dependence on cars and lower CO₂ emissions by encouraging more efficient and sustainable travel. Features may include EV charging stations, rental options, and simple digital tools for users. The project will also increase community awareness to support lasting changes in travel habits. Lessons from these pilots will guide future transport planning in similar low-density areas across the region.
