Introducing the project crew – Kihnu Veeteed

Kihnu Veeteed, an Estonian ferry operator, was established back in the year 2002 by the islanders to provide the lifeline ferry services to the community. The company has expanded its activities since then, and is now active in number of routes in Estonia.

As the environmental issues are important to everyone, the company contributes to make the ferry traffic more sustainable and share knowledge with collegues in the Baltic Sea region. Kihnu Veeteed is in close cooperation with the Estonian State Fleet and works hard to cut the CO2 emissions by installing fuel monitoring systems, LED lights and more efficient propellers to the ferries, involving M/S Kihnu Virve, M/S Soela, M/S Ormsö and M/S Koidula. Thereafter, Kihnu Veeteed will organize the eco-driving trainings to the crews of the ferries to optimize fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions.

As all the commerial shipping, the ferry industry needs to contribute to the shift to cleaner transportation and REISFER project does exactly this – strives to decarbonize the waterbourne traffic in the Baltic Sea and Kihnu Veeteed is excited to part of this. The company is well familiar with the specifics of the vessels and their capabilities and, therefore, can provide extensive technical information and route-specific operational expertise in the project.
