ReCreateBiobased

The ReCreate BioBased project develops practical ways to turn underutilised local biomass, such as common reed, into new valuable materials and products. The project tests how biomass and material side streams can be collected, processed, reused, and returned back into use instead of becoming waste. By replacing virgin and fossil-based raw materials with locally available biomass, the project supports more sustainable material use and reduces environmental impacts. At the same time, the project brings together companies, researchers, and other stakeholders across the Central Baltic region to develop new circular economy business opportunities and transferable solutions that can also be applied to other local biomass resources.

Expected results

The ReCreate BioBased project shows how locally available biomass and material side streams can be reused instead of being discarded as waste. In practice, the project pilots collection of biomass and processing it into new materials and products, and returning these materials back into use through recycling and reuse. The project also explores how locally available biomass resources can replace virgin and fossil based raw materials in different applications. The project supports the development of new circular economy solutions and new sustainable business opportunities by bringing together actors from different parts of the value chain.
