New reuse construction shop opens at ReTuna in August

As part of the Interreg Central Baltic project Waste to Value, a new reuse construction shop operated by Återbygget will open at ReTuna Återbruksgalleria in Eskilstuna in August. The establishment marks an important step towards increasing the reuse of building materials and reducing construction and demolition waste.

ReTuna, internationally recognized as the world’s first shopping centre dedicated entirely to reuse, has long demonstrated how circular business models can be integrated into everyday life. With Återbygget joining the galleria, the circular offering will expand to include reclaimed construction materials, sanitary ware, kitchen units, doors, appliances and other building-related products.

The new shop will create a direct pathway for reusable building materials to remain in circulation instead of becoming waste. Materials collected through Återbygget’s operations, together with suitable items received through ReTuna’s reuse collection system, will be inspected, prepared and made available for resale to both private individuals and businesses.

The approximately 230-square-metre shop will offer reclaimed building materials for both private customers and businesses.

Founded in Västerås, Återbygget specializes in identifying, salvaging and redistributing materials from buildings undergoing renovation or demolition. By extending the lifespan of valuable resources, the company contributes to lower material consumption and reduced climate impact from the construction sector. [eem.se]

The initiative is supported through the Waste to Value project, which addresses the growing challenge of construction and demolition waste in the Central Baltic region. The project develops practical models for collecting, sorting and redistributing reusable building materials while also identifying regulatory barriers and opportunities to strengthen circular construction practices.

The ReTuna shop serves as a concrete pilot demonstrating how reuse infrastructure can be integrated into existing waste management and circular economy systems. The experience gained will contribute to the project’s objective of developing transferable solutions that can be replicated by municipalities, reuse actors and construction stakeholders across the Central Baltic region.

By bringing together collection, reuse, retail and knowledge-sharing in one location, the new establishment strengthens local circular value chains while generating insights that can support broader adoption of resource-efficient construction practices.
