120 Women from Finland and Estonia Begin Their AI Learning Journey

When applications for the FinEstAI programme closed, we had received far more than we could accept. That level of interest said something important: the demand for practical AI skills in today’s workplaces is real, urgent, and growing.
On 3 March 2026, the FinEstAI programme officially launched, bringing together 120 women from Finland and Estonia to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming the work environment and how it can support everyday professional tasks. More than ten trainers deliver the programme from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and Estonian Business School.
Over the coming nine weeks, participants will deepen their understanding of AI through a blend of online learning and in-person collaboration. The programme includes seven online lessons alongside two face-to-face events: a Hackathon in Tallinn and a Workshop in Helsinki.
Together, these sessions provide participants with the opportunity to explore AI tools in practice and connect with professionals across both countries.
A Strong Start at the Kick-off Webinar
The opening webinar set the tone for what is to come. Participants were introduced to the current state of artificial intelligence and its implications for working life, followed by findings from a survey conducted as part of the project.
The survey mapped the AI skills and needs of support function professionals, as well as companies’ expectations for AI literacy. Many participants recognised their experiences in the results and openly reflected on how AI is already shaping their work.
The session also provided an initial look at practical AI use. Trainers demonstrated how AI tools can support everyday tasks such as writing, communication, and language learning, and participants left with concrete tips for using AI as a language assistant in their own professional context.
Beyond the presentations, small-group discussions allowed participants to share experiences and begin building cross-border connections. The conversations were lively, generous, and full of energy.
A Promising Beginning
The enthusiasm in the room was unmistakable. Participants asked questions, shared ideas, and candidly reflected on the role AI plays in their work. The feedback we received afterwards was overwhelmingly positive.
As the programme continues, participants will deepen their skills, exchange experiences, and learn from one another across borders. We look forward to sharing what emerges from this journey.
