BalticPFASResolve Partner Meeting in Mikkeli (Video)

On 8-9 June, the BalticPFASResolve project partners gathered in Mikkeli, Finland, to review project progress, coordinate upcoming activities, and strengthen collaboration across work packages.

Hosted by Mikkeli Development Miksei Ltd, the meeting brought together partners from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Sweden to exchange knowledge, discuss ongoing work, and align the next steps of the project. As a cross-border initiative, BalticPFASResolve relies on close cooperation between partners to address shared environmental challenges related to PFAS contamination and sustainable water management.

The meeting was opened by Juha Kauppinen from the City of Mikkeli and Blue Economy Mikkeli (BEM), who highlighted the city’s commitment to sustainable water management and innovation.

Alongside the project discussions, participants visited several research and water management facilities, including the Xamk – South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences laboratory, the LUT University water laboratory, and the Mikkeli wastewater treatment plant. These visits provided valuable insights into current technologies, research, and regional initiatives supporting the project’s objectives.

A particular highlight of the meeting was the seminar “From Wastewater to Resource – Tackling PFAS and Microplastics”, organised by BalticPFASResolve in collaboration with the Interreg Central Baltic Programme projects Balt-Plast-Free and SIWat – Sustainable Industrial Waters. The seminar served as the opening event of the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Water Treatment (ETWT 2026), held in Mikkeli on 10-11 June. More than 50 experts from the water sector, including researchers, technology developers, public authorities, and industry representatives, came together to discuss water reuse, emerging contaminants, and innovative solutions for sustainable water treatment.
