Innovation and AI Supporting Reuse in the Construction Sector
On 5 December, Kfast, together with Eskilstuna Municipality and ReTuna Recycling Gallery & Conference, organised a seminar within the Interreg Central Baltic project Waste to Value, bringing together project partners, construction stakeholders and architects to explore how innovation and artificial intelligence can promote reuse and more sustainable construction practices.
Kfast – Eskilstuna Municipal Real Estate Company – actively integrates reuse into its new construction, redevelopment and renovation projects.
Kfast is a project partner in Waste to Value, which is co-financed by the EU Interreg Central Baltic Programme. The project supports the scaling up of reuse practices, contributing to reduced costs, efficient use of resources and climate change mitigation.
The seminar programme included the following presentations:
- The “Gentle Kitchen Renovations” project, which is developing AI-based solutions aimed at renovating and reusing kitchens instead of replacing them.
- Modexa, a company specialised in kitchen renovation, demonstrating how the lifespan of existing kitchens can be extended and how new value can be created from reused materials.
- Tyréns, which presented a scanning service for identifying reusable construction materials and connecting them to a digital marketplace for reuse within the construction sector.
The Waste to Value project is led by Emmaus Åland in cooperation with Eskilstuna Municipality. Additional project partners include Kfast and Eskilstuna Strängnäs Energy and Environment AB, represented through ReTuna Recycling Gallery & Conference.
