Introducing the project crew – Blidösundsbolaget AB
Blidösundsbolaget AB (BBAB) is the largest ferry operator in the region of Stockholm. Their fleet consists of 39 ferries, transporting passengers and cargo in the archipelago of Stockholm. The focus of business is public transport of passenger as a service on behalf of the Stockholm Transport Administration. BBAB’s annual turnover is about 450 MSEK and the passenger volume slightly above 2 million of passengers per year.
The REISFER project is managed and executed by the technical department, mainly through the technical manager Torvald Hvistendahl and technical superintendent Fredrik Liw. BBAB’s vessels cover the age range from 1899 – 2024 and the company has basically 125 years of ship technology in the fleet. Three of the oldest vessels are still using steam propulsion (S/S Blidösund, S/S Storskär & S/S Norrskär) whereas the newest vessel (Candela P12 Nova) is operating full electric on hydrofoils. With this variety comes a deep technical knowledge within the specialized branch, archipelago ferries. For BBAB, tradition goes hand in hand with innovation and during the last years the company has been active in several development projects.
Their motivator to join the REISFER project is to further develop and collaborate around different solutions to make the ferry operations greener. For the project there are several activities planned. The most significant activity is to make a full electrification of the ferry M/S Silverö. Additionally, diferent methods to reduce hull resistance and the energy need for heating and cooling our vessels will be tested. Another important activity is to make a deeper analysis of historical energy consumption of the ferries and check correlation to KPIs for a better understanding and elaboration of guidelines for ecodriving and decision making.
