Project Partners Meet in Eskilstuna for Study Visits and Workshops

Project partners gathered in Eskilstuna for study visits, forums and meetings on circular construction and reuse.

From Tuesday 24 March to Thursday 26 March 2026, project partners gathered in Eskilstuna for a series of study visits, meetings and collaborative activities focused on circular construction and reuse. The programme combined strategic discussions with practical examples of how circular solutions are being implemented locally.

During the visit, partners took part in a project meeting and the second steering group meeting of the project. Key topics included project resourcing and cooperation agreements, as well as planning for upcoming activities. The steering group meets at least twice a year, with the next meeting scheduled for September.

Several study visits highlighted circular practices in action. At ReTuna, participants explored the ongoing transformation of the reuse gallery in preparation for Återbygget’s new operations. In Fröslunda, the Urban Furniture initiative showcased a public dance floor built entirely from reused materials, featuring a permanently installed Bluetooth speaker in the ground that can be activated at the touch of a button, allowing the public to play music. Additional visits included the Larsson Pavilion Leader project at Hammarby Church, constructed from reclaimed building materials and functioning both as a museum for engaged craftsmen and a meeting place for reuse activities, and the Eskilstuna Municipal Real Estate reuse depot, which serves as a reuse hub for the municipality’s operations.

The programme also included large-scale examples of circular construction. At Trumslagargården, a 15,000 m² former care facility is being transformed into office space for around 450 new workplaces, with strong environmental requirements and material reuse integrated into the procurement. At Skogstorp care home, participants learned about climate-smart construction using a timber frame, combined with solar panels, energy storage and geothermal solutions.

Partners also participated in the Viable Cities Transition Lab, a forum bringing together municipalities, businesses and other stakeholders to accelerate climate transition through collaboration and innovation. Workshops focused on circular construction and attracted around 300 participants, alongside a live broadcast.

In addition, participants attended a separate event on waste and hazardous waste, where key aspects of legislation, material flows and safe handling were presented.

The visit provided valuable insights into how circular economy principles can be applied in practice, while strengthening cooperation between partners across the region.
