Silverskill Project Kick-off Event Brought Together Over-50s from Ida-Virumaa

On Saturday, October 12, the festive opening event of the Silverskill project, aimed at people over 50 from the Ida-Virumaa region, took place at the Kohtla-Järve Cultural Center, attracting nearly 50 participants.

Silverskill is a project led by Tallinn Univesity of Technology, Virumaa College with the goal of enhancing the competitiveness of people aged 50+ in the labour market and entrepreneurship. The training program lasts one and a half years and consists of eight modules, covering topics such as entrepreneurship, digital skills, mentoring, communication, and marketing. The training sessions are free and conducted in Estonian.

The day was opened by moderator Mare Roosileht, who introduced the goals of the project and the growing opportunities it offers. Lively group discussions, led by Mare, explored the participants’ expectations, revealing surprisingly similar wishes and needs. The training on digital skills and entrepreneurship generated much excitement, while communication across generations, developing public speaking confidence, and avoiding sales traps were also considered equally important. Participants concluded that, in addition to gaining knowledge, the project offers an excellent opportunity to create inspiring connections and meet interesting people.

Project Manager Marianne Kama provided an overview of the Silverskill program structure, emphasizing the importance of digital skills and environmental awareness in today’s job market. Anneki Teelahk from the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund spoke about the current state of the labour market and highlighted the challenges older workers face. She also shared inspiring real-life examples that clearly demonstrated the necessity of the project.

Under the guidance of entrepreneur and trainer Kaire Viil, participants focused on setting bold personal goals and articulating their deeper expectations.

Project Manager Marianne Kama expressed her great satisfaction with the success of the opening event and encouraged all interested individuals to join in acquiring new knowledge and skills.

Completing the program opens new opportunities in the job market and supports participants in starting their own businesses. Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate from Tallinn Univesity of Technology, Virumaa College.
