WSM Project Progresses: Steering Committee Meeting in Riga Strengthens Cross-Border Dialogue
The development of the Water Safety Methodology (WSM) project continues to advance under the Central Baltic Partnership programme. On February 13th, we’ve participated in a key Steering Committee meeting hosted by our Latvian partners from the Latvian Beach Lifeguard Association in Riga.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia (VUGD), the Latvian Scout and Guide Central Organisation, and the Youth Guard Centre (Jaunsardzes centrs).
The discussion focused on the development of a comprehensive water safety programme for young people aged 14–18. The WSM project aims to establish a unified and practical methodology for water safety education, designed to reduce water-related incidents among youth in both Latvia and Estonia. We’ve discussed further the elements of the programme (eg. is there a need to add the First aid session into the obligatory programme or to add it as an extra session) and received valuable feedback of the Steering committee members. The work continues.
Stay tuned for further updates — there is much more to come as we continue building a safer future for young people around water.
