Small island communities face similar challenges in communication and cooperation with national authorities. Remote areas with small populations generates high per capita cost for infrastructure and other public services often leading to perceived top down decisions by authorities not taking the local perspectives into account. This project addresses the critical need for better governance tools in island communities by replacing top-down decision-making with a transparent and inclusive model tailored for the Baltic Sea region.
The project will deliver a functional and user-friendly digital assessment tool capable of evaluating the complex impacts of new regulations. Accompanying this tool is a proven methodology for inclusive decision-making that provides a scalable framework for other regions to follow. As a result, civil servants will gain increased administrative capacity to perform fair and accurate assessments, while the transparency of the process will lead to significantly strengthened trust between residents and governing bodies. These efforts will culminate in a scalable governance model that serves as a blueprint for fairer, more transparent administration across all Baltic Sea islands.
