REOPEN aims to bridge the gap between education and the skills young people (YP) need to enter the labour market competitively. The project reconnects HEIs and SMEs through business support organisations, offering training for YP from remote areas and fairly compensated short-term (1–2 month) internships in Latvia, Estonia, and Finland. Internships are matched to both YP skills and SME needs, strengthening cross-border cooperation and creating new job opportunities. The project also builds lasting collaboration between HEIs and SMEs, helping universities respond more flexibly to changing labour market demands. A cross-sector, international network will be expanded, and evidence-based recommendations will be developed for policymakers to improve long-term support systems for young people entering the workforce.
As a result, 300 YP from project partner countries will increase their competitiveness in the labour market – they will gain new skills during 3 training modules on soft-skills, digital skills and green skills, and work field-specific skills. YP will receive certificates, including official ECTS. 150 of these YP will also gain their work affiliation through practical work experience during their internships and will receive letters of reference from the hosting SMEs/organizations.
