Operations of Strategic Importance (OSI), or strategic projects, are key initiatives in the 2021-2027 EU programmes, including Interreg. They highlight significant contributions to programme objectives, showcasing the impact of EU funding.

OSI projects significantly contribute to programme goals and are subject to special monitoring and communication measures. The European Commission aims to enhance their visibility to demonstrate Cohesion policy effectiveness and encourage stakeholder engagement.

Goals

Communicating OSI projects symbolically tells the programme’s story, making policy achievements more relatable to citizens. Increased visibility also raises awareness of the EU’s benefits to people’s lives.

Responsibilities 

Member States, managing authorities, and beneficiaries must acknowledge EU Funds support, ensure higher visibility, and communicate OSI achievements. OSI projects are expected to organise a communication event or activity involving the Commission and managing authorities.

The Central Baltic Programme has identified four projects as OSI, you are warmly invited to explore them as follows:

Tackles plastic pollution by retrieving lost fishing gear and raising awareness, leading to healthier marine life and safer environments for recreational activities like swimming and fishing.

Creates a virtual platform with digital services for migrants, aiding integration into society by facilitating job searches, healthcare access,
and community connections.

These projects have been recognised for their significant contributions to sustainable development and cross-border cooperation within the programme. Together, these projects improve environmental health, support community integration, and promote sustainable practices, making everyday life better for people in the Baltic region.
