About RenEx

RenEx – Renewable Energy Export Value Chains from Central Baltic – helps renewable energy SMEs from Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Sweden grow beyond their home markets by working together.

The project focuses on companies developing solutions in areas such as hydrogen, solar energy, wind power, energy storage, smart grids and digital energy management. Its aim is to strengthen the international visibility, export readiness and cooperation capacity of renewable energy SMEs in the Central Baltic region.

Why RenEx is needed

Many renewable energy SMEs in the Central Baltic region have strong technologies and specialised expertise. However, as individual companies, they often lack the scale, visibility and international networks needed to enter distant non-EU markets.

Global buyers increasingly look for complete, reliable and scalable solutions rather than single technologies. This creates a challenge for smaller companies, but also an opportunity: by combining complementary expertise across borders, SMEs can offer stronger integrated solutions and enter international markets with greater credibility.

What RenEx does

RenEx brings together complementary SMEs across the Central Baltic region and supports them in forming joint renewable energy value chains. Instead of promoting isolated company offers, the project helps companies develop integrated export packages that combine different technologies, services and expertise.

During the project, participating SMEs will be supported through competence mapping, matchmaking, training, advisory services and market intelligence. The project will also organise joint export activities, including trade missions and pilot activities in selected non-EU target markets.

Through this process, SMEs will be able to build new partnerships, test their offers with international buyers and move towards real export opportunities.

How SMEs will benefit

Participating SMEs will gain access to new international contacts, practical export support and opportunities to collaborate with companies from neighbouring countries. They will receive guidance on topics such as export readiness, certification, standards, financing, regulatory requirements and market entry.

By joining cross-border value chains, SMEs can become part of stronger joint offers that are more visible and attractive to international buyers, partners and investors.

Long-term impact

A key part of RenEx is the development of a digital showcase platform for Central Baltic renewable energy solutions. The platform will present SME profiles, joint export offers, success stories and promotional materials, making it easier for international buyers, partners and investors to discover the region’s clean energy expertise.

In the long term, RenEx aims to contribute to a recognisable Central Baltic green export brand and create lasting cooperation structures that continue to support SME internationalisation beyond the project lifetime.
