Designing the Service Models to reduce the amount of underutilised wool
SOSREW project aims to develop two complementary service models for the waste raw wool and for side streams or from use discarder wool to use them in oil spill recovery products. The purpose is to decrease the amount of wool waste in these two instances of wool waste. The service models include modelling the necessary logistics in the waste wool use system.
The service model development is conducted through value chain mapping and stakeholder analysis to understand the systems that cause the waste and to find the leverage point for systems change. The identified stakeholders are engaged in the development during the project via interviews, co-design workshops, and roundtable discussions.
The product development is conducted via material experiments and initial prototypes that are tested for their oil spill recovery capabilities. The project searchers for waste wool streams that could be transformed into oil spill products that are technically feasible, functional in use and economical for the purpose. The service models and the most promising prototypes will be piloted with suitable, committed stakeholders.
