Woodworking and timber framing are traditional crafts that people in the Baltic region have practiced since ancient times.
However, there are currently very limited opportunities — or almost none — to acquire traditional timber framing skills. In addition, there is a lack of masters who possess these crafts, despite the fact that wood and forests are among the main natural resources in the Baltic region.
Thus, on one hand, there is a clear demand for traditional timber framing skills; on the other hand, there are no effective mechanisms to ensure this supply.
The main goal of the project is to create training opportunities in woodworking and traditional timber framing in order to improve young people’s skills, making them more competitive and attractive in the Baltic labour market.
The project’s target group is young people, as they belong to one of the most vulnerable and less competitive groups in the labour market.
Joining forces and sharing expertise, Baltic and international master carpenters united their skills to achieve the project goals — delivering eight professional training programs in woodworking and traditional timber framing, along with two workplace-based international workshops held in Latvia and Estonia.
👉 As a result, 83 young people have gained unique, highly competitive skills in traditional woodworking and timber framing — their first step towards a highly demanded career and employment in the construction and woodworking industries across the Baltic!
In addition to training activities, the project produced the educational publication
📘 “Timber Framing. A Practical Guide for Beginners”,
available to everyone in English, Estonian, and Latvian, ensuring the continuation and wider accessibility of traditional craft knowledge.
