Project aim and description:
The “Triple Bottom Line Baltic Impact Accelerator” (Baltic Impact Accelerator) tackles the challenges of new growth companies in the CB region by utilizing the Triple Bottom Line (3BL) methodology that enables more growth (Profit) with specific consideration towards environment (Planet) and society (People). As a result, the scaling-up of companies is tackled in three levels: Profit, Planet, People. Over the period of 36 months, the project will implement an accelerator programme, that:
1. Develops new business models with focus on 3BL
2. Helps to establish presence outside home markets
3. Supports to raise investments for accelerated growth and nurtures partnerships
The Triple Bottom Line Baltic Impact Accelerator (BIA) project has officially concluded, establishing a connected, resilient, and sustainability-driven innovation ecosystem across the Central Baltic region. By implementing a dedicated cross-border acceleration program, the project successfully supported early-stage startups in Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, and Finland in scaling their environmental and social innovations internationally.
Built around the Triple Bottom Line (3BL) framework, the accelerator guided companies to balance Profit, Planet, and People within their business models. Across three intensive implementation cycles, the program generated high interest, receiving 268 applications and providing structured support to 101 startups. Participating companies benefited from a comprehensive package including over 560 individual training sessions, tailored expert mentoring, cross-border networking, and international Demo Days.
The program has delivered measurable regional impact across all three dimensions of sustainability:
According to the project methodology, participating companies achieve official “scale-up” status within one year of completing the program by reaching specific growth thresholds (such as a 15% revenue increase, 10% profit increase, entering new Central Baltic markets, or creating at least five new jobs). Based on currently available data, 29 startups have already achieved scale-up status. Because the final acceleration cycle concluded at the end of last year, the complete and definitive scale-up results for all program participants will be fully measured and available by the end of this year.
The success of the Baltic Impact Accelerator highlights the critical role of cross-border cooperation. By collaborating across borders, startups expanded beyond their domestic ecosystems, established new international partnerships, and initiated joint product development.
Below is the list of key tangible outcomes, materials, and support frameworks produced during the project to foster sustainable entrepreneurship and scale-up growth in the region:
A comprehensive, cross-border training curriculum specifically developed around the Triple Bottom Line framework. It includes over 20 specialized training modules per cycle covering business development, internationalization, and sustainability strategies, which will remain available for future replication.
A practical, service-based support framework that enabled startups to invest in targeted business growth. Tangible results of these services include:
3. Cross-Border Collaboration and Networking Platform
The establishment of a permanent international network comprising over 120 business support organizations, public authorities, and NGOs across the Central Baltic region. This ecosystem connects graduated startups with regional mentors, international investors, and potential business partners.
A structured program for organizing international matchmaking and investor Demo Days. This framework successfully attracted investors and ecosystem stakeholders from both within the Central Baltic region and wider European markets, validating the business potential of impact-driven startups.
Over the period of 36 months, the project “Baltic Impact Accelerator” will implement an accelerator programme, that develops new business models with focus on 3BL, helps to establish presence outside home markets, supports to raise investments for accelerated growth and nurtures consortiums and partnerships among companies. Within the three acceleration cohorts a total of 96 scale-up companies will be supported (32 per cohort) and out of these 96 companies, 48 will scale up.
