Bio-CCU

ongoing

Bio-CCU

The project addresses a critical Central Baltic cross-border challenge, i.e., overreliance on imported fossil CO2 for industrial use, despite the availability of underutilized domestic biogenic CO2. The project aims to facilitate the utilization of biogenic CO2 by value chain designs and recommendations, through its objectives to develop a digital decision tool for bio-CCU value chain and to demonstrate bio-CCU value chain with technology test and experimentation. It is expected to result in an improved CO2 value chain based on biogenic CO2 instead of fossil CO2.

Expected results

As main outputs, a biogenic CO2 dashboard provides a first visualization of bio-CCU actors across Central Baltic from a supply-demand perspective; a unique database for both existing and potential bio-CCU value chains are co-created; an innovative decision-tool is developed to assist bio-CCU value chain design and generate recommendations based on techno-economic-environment assessment from a life-cycle perspective; and a bio-CCU value chain is demonstrated, through biogenic CO2 production and its utilization. For that, the project is designed to convert local insights into scalable, cross-border solutions that reduce the dependence on imported fossil CO2.
