BalticPFASResolve is a cross-border initiative co-funded by the Interreg Central Baltic Programme, aiming to reduce emissions of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) into the Baltic Sea. The project runs from August 2025 to July 2028 and brings together 11 partners from Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia.

PFAS are persistent chemicals that pose serious risks to water quality and ecosystems. BalticPFASResolve addresses this challenge through a combination of preventive, regulatory, and technical remediation measures, focusing on key pollution sources such as municipal wastewater, stormwater, and firefighting activities.

The project is structured into four work packages:

  • WP1: PFAS Source Tracking and Remediation Programmes.
  • WP2: PFAS Analysis, Mitigation and Remediation at Water Utilities.
  • WP3: Stormwater Remediation Pilots.
  • WP4: Awareness Raising and Mitigation at Airports, Fire Stations, and Training Sites.

Key activities include:

  • DevelopingPFAS tracking and mitigation tool for municipalities and water utilities.
  • Launching joint monitoring and remediation programmes.
  • Testing innovative technical solutions in stormwater systems and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Promoting collaboration with firefighting brigades and airport rescue services

By fostering cross-border cooperation, BalticPFASResolve enables partners to share knowledge, develop scalable solutions, and contribute to PFAS policy development at the EU level.
