The Latvia–Estonia border regions of Latgale, Ida-Viru and Võru face common challenges: limited local employment opportunities, youth outmigration and a mismatch between education and labour market needs. Many young people, including those from vulnerable groups, need practical skills, confidence and direct links with local employers to build their future in their home regions. The BorderLink project addresses this issue by developing a joint cross-border training programme focused on entrepreneurship, transferable skills, digital skills and practical business experience. The project will bring together schools, young people and enterprises to improve young people’s readiness for employment, internships or self-employment. Through this approach, BorderLink aims to strengthen local talent and support the long-term development of the Latvia–Estonia border area.
BorderLink will help 225 young people in Latgale, Ida-Viru and Võru improve their entrepreneurial and transferable skills through a joint practical training programme. Young people will take part in business-related learning activities, pitching sessions, match-making events, short-term secondments and mentoring with local enterprises. As a result, they will gain practical experience, stronger confidence and better access to jobs, internships or self-employment opportunities. The project will also strengthen cross-border cooperation between schools, enterprises and regional organisations in Latvia and Estonia. In the long term, BorderLink will help reduce youth outmigration, support local businesses with future talent and improve employment opportunities in remote border regions.
