School meals play an important role in helping students stay focused and do well in class. However, many schools struggle with food waste and limited meal options. Our project offers a solution by implementing a buffet-style system in the project pilots schools, where students can choose their own food and portion sizes. This helps them eat more healthily and reduces how much food gets thrown away. The main goal is to make school meals better and cut food waste by 30–50%.
The project will help reduce food waste in pilot schools by introducing buffet-style meals, digital tools to track waste, and fun educational activities for students. When students can choose what and how much they eat, they develop healthier eating habits and waste less food. Schools and local governments will get useful tools and easy-to-follow guides to keep using these solutions in the future. Partners from Latvia and Estonia will also learn from schools in Sweden and Finland, sharing ideas and improving together. In the end, the project will create a better, greener school meal system that works well for students across the Central Baltic region.
